Galatians 5:13-26

What do you find is the hardest thing about being a Christian?

Galatians 5:13-26

The thing about being set free by Jesus is that it comes with a bit of responsibility. (Think Spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility…) We have been set free, but it’s a complete waste of time if we’re not going to use it well.

If you go into any supermarket, you will come across labels about “living well”, “healthy living”, “love life” or “superfoods”. This passage tells us that the best thing for us really is fruit – the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Theres a whole list in here of junk food types as well, the behaviour that is bad for us and makes us feel like rubbish too, things like hatred, selfishness, and envy. These things are part of the people we used to be, but we no longer have to give into them or be ruled by them.

Instead we can choose the superfoods – the fruit of the Spirit. And it’s not even really a choice – because when we become Christians, we see God transforming us from the inside out – and we are given the Holy Spirit – God living inside of us, making us new people.

Junk food doesn’t really do us any good. We might think we want it, but it never really satisfies. Choose to live out the fruit of the Spirit instead.

Lord God, thank you that you help me be a new person. Help me to live for you, everyday. I pray for more of the fruit of the Spirit to be visible in my life. Amen.
