Romans 13

Romans 13

Submit to Authorities

Those in authority deserve our respect and obedience. People in authority have an obligation to act wisely and in the wider interest. Therefore we should submit to them and do as they ask and give them what we owe them. If those in authority do not discharge their obligations properly then they face stern penalties however.

What does God ask us to do? To love him with all our heart, and to love others as ourselves.

In the same way we should do what we are asked by God to do, praising God.

Loving our family and friends is easy, at least most of the time. But loving everyone? Well we can start by treating everyone equally and in such a way that we would like them to treat us. Look for the good that people do and praise them. Be kind, be tolerant, be patient.

Love one another as I have loved you. By this all men will know that you are my disciples. John 13:34, 35

Dear Lord, please teach me to love as you love. Amen

Have you ever wanted to say something spiteful? Try counting to ten before you do it while thinking of something nice you could say instead? Can you make it through a whole day that way? Today is Good Friday after all.
