Romans 7:13-25

Have you ever done something or said something that you didn’t want to and after doing it you feel it was some else doing it and you were watching saying “no don’t do this!”. We have all done things that are considered to be sinful even when we know Christ. The point is that we recognise the sinful behaviour and take it in hand.

It like a an alcoholic trying to quit drinking once they see they have a problem and know drinking is not doing them any good they try to stop but the addiction makes them drink. They don’t want to do it and they are a slave to it.

Paul explains that we all have a sinful nature which we are slaves to and that we can’t seem to help ourselves when it comes to being sinful. We do things we don’t want to do because we want to follow Gods law this is a constant battle we all have.

So if we are sinful in nature what hope do we have? The hope is in Jesus by becoming slaves to Gods law and knowing the love of Jesus we can keep the sinful nature in check and only do the things we want to do that please God. The closer the relationship with Jesus and the more like him we try to get the easier it is to keep our sinful nature under control.

Lord God help me in turning away from my sinful nature and help me do the things that please you and further your kingdom for all to see the good things you are doing in me. Amen.
