Acts 25:13-26:32

So the thing about light is, if you turn on a light bulb, or light a candle, open a curtain, or even use the torch function on your smartphone, there is absolutely NO way that a room can remain dark. The darkness literally has nowhere to hide. A room cannot remain in the dark, even with a smidge of light. Light 1 : Dark 0. The light always wins.

I find this idea remarkably comforting. No matter how dark your life is, no matter how bad your day has been, no matter how gloomy, rotten or miserable you feel, the light will always win over the darkness. This is exactly what Paul is saying here, that Jesus is the light of the world, and is available to all. Invite him into your life, and there is no way it can remain dark. No matter what you’ve done, or how you feel. Pretty awesome right? I am so on Team Light!

Something else strikes me about this passage. Paul is so determined to share the Good News, the light of Jesus with the world. He wants everyone to know about it. And he’s not afraid of what it might cost him to share this Good News. He’s currently in prison for what he believes in, and still he can’t stop talking about it, and trying to share it with the world. That’s dedication!

I don’t know about you, but I’m not always so forward with my faith. It’s something I need to work on. If you saw a great movie, you’d want to tell your friends right? If you had an amazing meal out at a restaurant, you’d tell people how yummy it was wouldn’t you? Why do we not always share with our friends what we experience when it comes to our faith and the love of Jesus? This week, lets all try to be a little braver. Lets not only turn on the light in our own lives, but share that light with those around us too.

Lord Jesus, thank you that your light always overcomes the darkness. Help me to be a light to other people I know, and to share your Good News with them. Amen.
